What is Memory Care?

Memory care provides a safe, supportive living environment for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Specially trained caregivers provide personalized assistance with daily needs, while familiar routines, meaningful activities, and thoughtful engagement bring comfort, connection, and purpose to each day.

Memory care becomes an important option when changes in memory, judgment, or behavior make living at home increasingly difficult or unsafe.

Rock Creek Manor’s new certified memory care community, opening in early 2027, will offer a secure, thoughtfully designed setting where residents receive attentive, individualized care that honors their dignity, abilities, and personal history.

Who Needs Memory Care

Memory care is designed for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia who need specialized support, consistent supervision, and a secure environment.

Families often wonder when the time is right. The decision usually becomes clearer when memory loss begins to compromise safety, independence, or quality of life, or when the demands of caregiving become difficult to manage at home.

Assisted Living vs Memory Care?

Assisted living provides personalized help with daily needs, including bathing, dressing, medications, meals and activities. Memory care builds on that support with a secure environment, familiar routines, and staff specially trained in dementia care. Rock Creek Manor currently offers full-time personal care and looks forward to introducing a dedicated memory care community in early 2027.

How often should I visit a family member in memory care?

No rule fits every family. Plan short, regular visits at the time of day when your loved one feels best, and keep each visit simple, such as a meal, a walk, or music. Ask the care team which routines work for your loved one.
